“We had a basement flood from a plugged downspout. BC Preferred took care of the problem quickly. Great job!”

The Hastings-Sunrise area has the famous PNE Fairgrounds and Hastings Horseracing Park. This is mostly a residential, working class and ethnically diverse area with services and shops running along Hastings Street. The north side of Hastings-Sunrise you can see across Burrard Inlet to the North Shore Mountains. On the east side of Hastings-Sunrise is the City of Burnaby starting at Boundary Road.

In 1863 the Province of BC set aside land for development of a deep sea port on Burrard Inlet. New Brighton a vacation resort came into being along the shores of Burrard Inlet instead. By stage coach vacationers travelled to the New Brighton Hotel coming all the way from New Westminster and then plied the Burrard Inlet on ferry from Moodyville a logging operation, then to Stamp’s Mill and back to New Brighton.

Eventually New Brighton’s name changed to Hastings in 1869 in honor of Admiral George Hastings. Hastings grew and had many firsts, first hotel, post office, road, real estate deal, subdivision and first ferry between Victoria and Burrard Inlet.
