The Fairview area is the central section of Vancouver stretching from Granville Island to False Creek to Science World and to South Shaughnessy. In the 1860’s this area was logged of its enormous trees but it wasn’t until the 1890‘s that the area became developed and the BC Electric Company constructed a railway system. With the area opened up with the Granville and Cambie streetcars running along Broadway and known as the Fairview Loop it wasn’t long before residential neighbourhoods sprang up.
Today Granville Island, the Emily Carr University of Art and Design plus the shopping area of South Granville are Fairview’s claim to fame.
